MyHEAT partners with National Fuel to launch an innovative pilot to help customers save energy and reduce emissions.


National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation (National Fuel) has partnered with MyHEAT Inc. (MyHEAT) to enhance energy efficiency awareness and action. The partnership was established as part of a pilot program within a cross section of its residential utility customers as nearly 94 percent of Western New York households use natural gas as an energy source.

The partnership will bring MyHEAT’s innovative solution that quickly and cost-effectively offers detailed and personalized heat loss information to residential customers. More than 160,000 residential homes will be included within this pilot. MyHEAT’s online platform has proven to increase a utility’s ability to engage customers on their energy efficiency journey, leading them to reduce their natural gas consumption.

On the partnership, CEO of MyHEAT, Darren Jones said, “We are thrilled to be bringing the MyHEAT solution to National Fuel’s customers. Our platform increases a utility’s ability to engage customers with personalized information, motivating them to take the next step to save energy. The goal of this program is to introduce our energy efficiency platform in a way that allows for effective measurement of the impact on energy savings.”


The program will help National Fuel identify opportunities for engagement to help customers that have the most to gain from weatherization improvements. The results will be used to determine which engagement activities have the biggest impact on motivating energy-saving actions.

“Our goal for this pilot program is to provide customers with an easy-to-use platform that helps them to understand the heat loss from their homes and compare that to local trends,” said Donna DeCarolis, president of National Fuel. "National Fuel’s energy efficiency program, which launched in 2008 as the first consumer program of its kind in New York, focuses on reduced energy usage. These conservation efforts translate to emissions reduction and National Fuel’s results in the last 12 years show a significant decrease in carbon dioxide emissions of more than 1.18 million metric tons in total since the program’s inception, and more than 172,000 metric tons in 2019 alone. Our intention is to continually enrich our energy efficiency programs and MyHEAT is another positive step in that direction."

MyHEAT provides an online platform that enables customers to view and compare heat escaping from their homes and encourages them to learn more about local resources and incentives. Data is collected using a world-class thermal sensor to identify where heat loss is occurring from each building across an entire service area from a bird’s-eye view.
